Miconazole has an antifungal activity against the common dermatophytes, yeast and various other fungi.
Micazole is indicated:
- For the prevention and treatment of candidal (monilial) infections of the oral cavity, esophagus and intestinal tract
Known hypersensitivity to miconazole.
Gastrointestinal discomfort and in rare cases allergic reactions have been reported.
Dosage and Administration:
The following is generally recommended:
- Infants: ¼ measuring spoon of gel four times daily
- Children & Adults : ½ measuring spoon of gel four times daily
- The gel should be kept in mouth as long as possible and the treatment should be continued for a week after the symptoms have disappeared
Miconazole potentiates the effect of oral hypoglycemics and anti-coagulant effect of coumarin derivatives. The dosage of such drugs should be reduced – if necessary – in case of co-administration with Micazole.
Miconazole inhibits the metabolism of terfenadine, astemizole and cisapride, therefore these drugs should not be used by patients treated with miconazole
Although there is no evidence that miconazole is teratogenic in animals, hazards should always be weighed against the expected therapeutic benefits in case the product is prescribed during pregnancy
