Composition:

Each 100 ml syrup contains:
Acefylline Piperazine……………………2 g
Sodium Phenobarbital…………….0.066 g

Properties:

Pharmacodynamics
Acefylline is a xanthine derivative which directly relaxes the smooth muscles of the bronchial airways and pulmonary blood vessels.
It stimulates respiration and also relaxes the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal and biliary tracts.
Phenobarbital is central nervous system depressant and produces sedation and hypnosis. It has an anticonvulsant effect and lowers serum bilirubin concentration.

Pharmacokinetics
Acefylline and phenobarbital are rapidly absorbed from the alimentary tract. They are distributed to all tissues of the body after reaching the circulation. Metabolism occurs in the liver and excretion is through the kidney.

Indications:

Etaphylline Phenobarbital is indicated in:

  • Bronchial asthma
  • Emphysema
  • Insomnia
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Dyspnea
  • Anxiety

Side Effects:

Etaphylline Phenobarbital syrup is well tolerated. Only mild and transient side effects may occur including sedation and drowsiness.

Dosage and Administration:

The following is generally recommended:

  • Adults: 3 to 5 tablespoonfuls daily in divided doses
  • Children: 2 to 6 teaspoonfuls daily in divided doses
  • Infants (6-12 months): 1 to 2 teaspoonfuls daily in divided doses

Bottle of 120 ml syrup.

Storage:

Store at room temperature, below 25°C.
