Description
Gastrointestinal spasmolytic
Properties/Actions
Mebeverine hydrochloride is a musculotropic spasmolytic with a strong and selective action on the smooth muscle spasm of the gastrointesitnal tract, particularly of the colon.
Indications
Duspatalin is indicated in spastic functional disturbances of the colon:
  • Irritable colon syndrome in its primary form.
  • Irritable colon syndrome associated with organic lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, such as:
    • Diverticulosis and colon diverticulitis
    • Regional enteritis
    • Diseases of the gall baldder and bile ducts (biliary dyskinesia)
    • Gastric and duodenal ulcers
    • Dysentery (whether or not anamnestic)
    • Specific and aspecific inflammations of the digestive tract
Contraindications
Contraindications are not known. As atropine-like side effects are absent, Duspatalin is not contraindicated in patients with glaucoma or prostatic hypertrophy.

Side Effects/Adverse Effects
After administration of Duspatalin in therapeutic doses, no adverse effects attributableto the drug have been reported.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Though experiments in rats and rabbits have shown that Duspatalin is not teratogenic in these animal species, administration of Duspatalin is to be discouraged during pregnancy.
Dosage & Administration
1 tablet three times daily, perefrably 20 minutes before meals.
When the desired effect has been obtained, the dosage may be reduced gradually after a few weeks.
