Description
Properties/Actions
The composition of Entocid tablets is intended for the disinfection of the intestihal tract. It contains three synergetic active ingredients:
  • Di-iodohydroxyquinoline: an organic quinoline derivative with high iodine content, is specifically amebicidal and active against other protozoal infections which may produce diarrhea in man.
  • Phthalylsulphathiazole: a sulphonamide of very poor absorbability, attains a high concentration in the bowels and is bacleriostatic to the majority of pathogenic bacilli that produce bacillary dysentry and other diarrheas.
  • Streptomycin sulphate: is not absorbed when given by mouth, no systemic action or toxicity is produced. However this route of administration is reserved for the local sterilization of the gut, especially in diarrheas and other gastrointestinal infections.
Indications
  • Acute and chronic baciliary dysentery
  • Amebiasis
  • Bacterial enteritis and colitis
  • Dyspepsias in young children
Contraindications
The product is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to iodine or halogenated hydroxyquinolines, or with impaired renal or liver function.
Drug Interactions
The antibacterial effect of streptomycin may be reduced by using bacteriostatie antibiotics.
Side Effects/Adverse Effects
  • Gastrointestinal disturbances may occur.
  • Skin rash and pruritus ani may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation

Dosage & Administration
1 to 2 tablets every four to six hours according to age and condition.
Overdosage

Warnings
It is used cautiously in thyroid disease and may interfere with thyroid function tests up to 6 months after therapy.
Its use is best avoided in patients with neurological disorders.
